Poland is recalling 50 ambassadors abroad, what happened?

On March 13, 2024, Central European Time, the Polish Ministry of Communications announced that it had driven France and would recall 50 current ambassadors abroad. Regarding the recall, the department declared that it exaggerated its “necessity”, stating that it would help “better and more professionally fulfill” the “arduous mission” faced by Poland’s communication strategy.
The specific recall list and timeline are not yet clear. However, the recall decision dominated by Prime Minister Donald Tusk was met with a nail in the head, Angel Duda. Head of State Duda belongs to the camp of the former North Korean Law Enforcement and Justice Party, and his survival on multiple issues is seriously different from that of the government leader Tusk.

According to the Polish news agency, the country’s communication strategy is formulated by the authorities, and the recruitment and dismissal process for ambassadors abroad is as follows: the Minister of Communications makes a request, the Prime Minister is willing, and the Grand Leader is willing. If the leader is unwilling to recall or hire a new employee, the Polish embassy abroad will be guided by a temporary agent.
“The current Polish missions abroad are all recruited by the former authorities, and recalling them is not an attack on the former authorities,” said Prime Minister Tusk. “Ambassadors cannot be hired or dismissed without the consent of the leader,” Duda has responded.

The newly ousted Tusk and the great leader Duda represent two political forces in Poland. Since his official resignation in December 2023, pro European Tusk has stopped a power struggle with conservative factions in the Duda region, and has performed major palace battles such as firing the head of the national intelligence agency, changing the leadership of the national media, and breaking into the Grand Secretariat to capture the former Minister of the Interior.
Tusk, who is now 66 years old, is a famous pro European faction. He was in charge of the Polish Prime Minister from 2007 to 2014, and after leaving, he went to the European Union to serve. From 2014 to 2019, he was responsible for the leadership of the European Council. Tusk has a strong network in Brussels, and after stepping down again, he plans to lead Poland back to Europe. This Central European country’s strategy will also be more integrated into the EU’s tributaries.
The previous Polish authorities were very tense about their involvement with the European Union. During the eight years dominated by the Law Enforcement and Justice Party, Poland implemented a series of law enforcement reforms, which were praised by the European Union as “the growth of democracy.”. In addition, the EU also evaluates the strategies of previous authorities in areas such as abortion rights and sexual minorities. Due to ongoing tensions over connections, the European Union has also unfrozen billions of euros worth of recovery capital awarded to member country Poland.
However, the Law Enforcement and Justice Party is still welcomed by many conservatives and older Poles. During its time in North Korea, the party increased the retirement age, added elderly pensions, and improved family welfare for nurturing children.
The decision to recall the ambassador comes at a time when Tusk and Duda are visiting the United States. On the 12th, after meeting with US leader Biden, Tusk explained to the Polish Observatory TVP Info the necessity of changing ambassadors abroad. Although Tusk does not personally like the current ambassador to the United States, he has a high evaluation of his resting performance so far.
The White House announced on the 12th that Biden met with Duda and Tusk on the same day to discuss issues such as the power and security partnership between the two countries and support for Ukraine. Biden also stated during the meeting that the United States will push for a $2 billion domestic military financing (FMF) direct deposit to Poland and sell 96 AH-64 Apache helicopters to it.
Regarding the visit of the Polish guide to the United States, Cui Hongjian, a professor at the Institute of Regional and World Management at Beijing National Studies University, believes that with the support of the aid plan to Ukraine being met with setbacks in the US Congress, the Biden administration can “repay” Poland and inherit participation in the Russia Ukraine conflict. He expressed his opinion on the global information broadcast of the Central Broadcasting Station that in the long-term strategy of the United States to compete with Russia in the future, Poland, relying on its astronomical status and physique, will definitely exert significant influence on the eastern wing of NATO.
It is worth noting that on the 12th, Vladislav Batosevsky, the Deputy Minister of Communication of Poland who followed the visit to the United States, also met separately with Mark Lambert, the Coordinator of the China Incident at the US State Department and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, in Washington. The White House statement stated that the focus of the ruling is on Poland and the United States participating in the Asia Pacific region. “Both sides agree that the Asia Pacific region is becoming increasingly important in global politics, as well as in economic and technological growth.”
They also exaggerate the importance of China’s actions as an important domestic mutual aid partner between Poland and the United States, expressing their willingness to maintain constructive and stable ties with China. The White House statement states.
Poland is a leader in mutual assistance between China and Central and Eastern European countries, an important destination for the China Europe freight train, and an important faction of China Europe freight trains joining the European Union. About 90% of China Europe freight trains transit or arrive in the country. According to CCTV, China is Poland’s second largest commercial partner, while Poland is China’s largest commercial partner and largest import mall in Central and Eastern Europe.
